Your donation to the Verna J. Kirkness Education Foundation (VJKF) helps Indigenous high school students across Canada explore their future in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Our program offers a life-changing opportunity: a one-week, fully funded experience in a research laboratory at a Canadian university.
At VJKF, we believe in potential — not grades. Students are selected based on a personal essay that shares their aspirations and how the program will help guide their post-secondary journey.
Together, we are building the next generation of Indigenous leaders.
of surveyed program alumni graduate high school (compared to national averages well below this)
of alumni attend university or college.
of participants pursue STEM fields as their major or minor.
volunteer hours have been contributed by faculty, staff, and mentors.
Your donation directly supports:
Scholarships for Indigenous grade eleven students to attend a week-long university experience.
Travel, meals, accommodation, and programming costs — ensuring no financial barriers for participants.
A safe, supportive environment, including cultural events and traditional feasts hosted by Indigenous student centers.
We operate with an annual budget of approximately $500,000, with over 80% allocated directly to program delivery. 45% of program funding is contributed by our university partners; your donation bridges the gap.
All donations receive a tax receipt. Registered Charity Number: 82284 3629 RR 0001
Your gift — whether one-time or monthly — helps ensure Indigenous students have the opportunity to dream bigger, pursue education, and change the world.
Together, we can empower the next generation of Indigenous scholars, scientists, and leaders.
